CONVINCE YOUR BOSS

How to convince your boss to send you to #SMWC8

Want to let your manager/boss know about the great skills, resources, and networking you will take away from the Wellness Together’s Student Mental Wellness Conference (SMWC)?

The conference provides great opportunities to enrich your work and your team all year long. We want to help you make the case for your school/district, or organization investing in your attendance at the conference.

Here’s how you can convince your manager/boss it’s a worthwhile investment.

Highlight the keynotes, workshops, and training

Gathering state & national leaders, seasoned mental health providers, and leaders in education, SMWC features relevant and trusted innovators in the mental health and education fields. Workshops and intensives prepare and equip you with practical tools and the latest research so that you have what you need to make a difference.

Incorporate the skills you’ve learned into day-to-day practices!

Pitch SMWC as a team event

You don’t need to attend alone! Invite your whole team to learn and develop together. Embrace collective growth and strengthen your team, fostering an environment where collaboration and innovation thrive. Team bonding helps us all; your team returns to work with boosted morale, ready to continue on with new ideas!

Share past experiences

If you’ve been to the SMWC or a similar event and found it beneficial, share your experience with your boss. Describe how the event helped you grow professionally and how it impacted your work. Identify the skills and capabilities valued in your work, then demonstrate how your attendance helped you hone and perfect those skills.

Finally, demonstrate how attending SMWC can help you grow professionally and expand your network. Once you return, you can tap into that network for new ideas and opportunities.

Ask for approval

The  Convince Your Boss letter and Budget Proposal can be requested above and customized as you need. Let your boss know that you are committed to cost savings. For example, you can register early at a lower rate and book your hotel room through the official SMWC room block. This way, you know you’re getting the best deal.  Wellness Together’s Student Mental Wellness Conference includes coffee breaks, receptions, and lunches to help save dining costs, too!

Your boss may not be prepared to act on your request immediately, and they may need to get approval from other decision-makers. Sending your request early gives your boss more time to consider the proposal.
